| Cello PacksI much prefer collecting rack packs to cellos. There are too many FAKE cellos on the market. Many of these have been authenticated by grading companies, which further complicates, muddles, and confuses those trying hard to ensure their collections are stocked with only authentic items. Apparently, despite having authenticated dozens of specimens, cello packs from 1975 with George Brett or Robin Yount on top are ALL fake. There are serious questions about those from 1978 with Eddie Murray on top and those from 1979 with Ozzie Smith on top. Many oft these fake cellos came from the infamous and prolific fraudster called out in the thread here >> Click here to learn more about the L.A. Cello Fraud King
I have always been partial to the 1978 Topps Eddie Murray card. I love the look of the card and the tiny "All-Star Rookie" trophy. This is a beautiful 1978 Topps cello with Murray on top. It has 50-50 centering and no ink marks that typically plague this card. I estimate its value at $200.00 given the information at the top of this page. These seem somewhat more common than the 1979 cellos with Ozzie Smith on top.
Here is a beautiful 1979 Topps cello pack with Ozzie Smith on top. The Smith is a notoriously difficult card to find centered, and this example, on the top of the cello, is very well-centered. Pack is very tight. I'd value it at $200.00 given the information at the top of this page.
Here is a 1981 Topps cello pack with Walter Payton on top and a pair of 1982 Topps cello packs with Walter Payton on top. Combined, there are worth somehwere around $150.00.
I bought this solely because the Carlton Super Vet card indicates a liklihood of the Gwynn card underneath. This is NOT 100%, but I would call it the top indicator card for Gwynn. Other indicator cards for Gwynn include Rafael Landestoy, Omar Moreno, and Joaquin Andujar, but none of foolproof.I'd value this at $50.00.

This is a 1985 Fleer Cello with Kirby Puckett on top and Roger Clemens on the back. I'd price this at about $150.
At one time, these 1987 Fleer cellos would have been a big deal - especially the Bonds. Today, these seem somewhat uninteresting and rather common. The Bonds is still the most expensive of the bunch, but you can probably get one for less than $30.00. The Larkins probably sell for $20, as does the Bo Jackson. The Will Clark card, which in the 1987 Fleer collation patterns comes right before the Barry Bonds card, was once the most sought after in the whole set when he looked to be a sure-fire hall-of-famer. His cello might be still sell for as high as $20, but not much more.
This is a 1986 Fleer cello pack with the Jose Canseco rookie card on top. You can purchae these for between $30-$40 on eBay. |
